Verhofstadt asked Prince Philip to behave 25/01/2007 00:00
25 January 2007
Crown Prince Philip told two journalists at the New Year's Reception at the Royal Palace that he would “teach them a lesson”. Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt called the Prince’s behaviour “unsuitable” and said he was concerned about the way the Prince handles the press, De Morgen writes.
The journalists to be taught the lesson were De Morgen's Editor-in-Chief Yves Desmet and VTM’s Editor-in-Chief Pol Van Den Driessche. Prince Philip is reportedly discontent with their coverage of his appearance as part of the mission to South Africa.
The Prince threatened to announce the journalists' persona non grata at the court. "You must have respect for me, because I am the next king", the Prince told Van Den Driessche. "Your negative reports will not stop me from continuing on my mission", the Prince said.
Princess Mathilde is reported to have tried to stop Philip by pulling on his jacket but all in vain.
Prime Minister Verhofstadt has already informed the court that the Prince's actions are not acceptable.
