BRUSSELS – The personnel at steel factory Duferco Clabecq (formerly Forges de Clabecq) stopped work once again on Tuesday. The workers had voted on Monday in favour of resuming work.
One of the negotiators for the socialist union FGTB however has committed suicide. The workers will remain on strike again now until the day of the funeral.
52-year-old Christian Binnemans committed suicide at home. After the majority of personnel voted on Monday to resume work, Binnemans announced that he had started a hunger strike at the end of last week to protest the temporary statute to hire interim workers. He wanted to discuss the matter with several government ministers as well.
