BRUSSELS - The public prosecution department in Hasselt has started an inquiry into the 18-year-old old released from a prison in the US state of Kentucky on Tuesday.
"We are going to gather all the information to look into whether any criminal offences were committed in Belgium. It may involve the possession of child pornography," Erwin Steyls of the Hasselt prosecutor's office said on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old Hasselt boy was arrested in Kentucky in early August when he went there to meet a girl he had chatted with on the internet for years. He thought she was 16, but she was in fact only 13. Nude photos of the girl were found in his email inbox, sent by her.
