Metal plate linked to parachutist murder 29/01/2007 00:00
29 January 2007
BRUSSELS — Late last week a group of friends walking through Broekven in Meeuwen found a rotten metal plate lying on the ground. The metal plate contained some numbers. It was passed over to the police department at Tongeren, who are investigating the murder of parachutist Els Van Doren, who died when her parachute failed to open on an organised jump, reports Gazet van Antwerpen.
The finder, who wished to remain anonymous, said the plate may have been used to provoke the collapse of Els Van Doren's parachute on 18 November in Opglabbeek.
He described the plate as being made of steel, about ten by four centimetres wide. Whether it was a piece of Van Doren's parachute will become clear from the ongoing investigation.
The plate resembles a parachute accessory, but it was found too far from the place where Els Van Doren landed, an estimated of 5 kilometres away.
