BRUSSELS — Long delays on the E17 motorway were reported on Tuesday after the road was sealed off following a serious collision.
A truck collided from behind with a roadworks vechicle that was warning oncoming motorists of the maintenance works.
Both vehicles burst into flames and were completely destroyed.
The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet known, but highway police said the roadworks vehicle was stationary at the time of the accident.
The vehicle was probably parked in the emergency lane, news agency Belga reported.
One person was slightly hurt in the accident and taken to hospital for treatment.
The Antwerp-bound lanes of the E17 were sealed off at Kruishoutem. Motorists were being directed off the motorway via the Kruishoutem exit.
A traffic jam of 10km quickly built up after the accident.
