Lefevere will see Dedecker in court 26/01/2007 00:00
26 January 2007
BRUSSELS – Dedecker said that three top Belgian cyclists followed an anti-doping treatment programme in Italy in 2006 worth EUR 24.000.
A week later, the senator had named four cyclists in total. After a lengthy arguments with the national cycling union Belgische Wielrijdersbond (BWB) he applied to the Belgian “hormone magistrate” Johan Sabbe. The investigation is still in progress, De Standaard reports.
Lefevere has been threatened with legal action since September. He said he felt personally attacked by the senator’s accusations. Back then everyone thought it was nothing but threats, but Lefevere decided to proceed.
Esperanza, the IPCT and Celio groups are all demanding compensation for moral damage by Dedecker.
Esperanza is the financial structure behind the cycling team called Quick Step-Innergetic headed by Patrick Lefevere. IPCT, or International Professional Cycling Teams, is a commercial union including almost all ProTourteams. Celio is the management bureau for Tom Boonen, Nick Nuyens, Gert Steegmans and other leading cyclists.
