BRUSSELS – Swedish clothing giant H&M is going to build a new distribution centre in Belgium. The facility will employ 600 people. Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt announced this today in a press release. The report has been confirmed by H&M Belgium.
Verhofstadt and Finance Minister Didier Reynders have announced that a tax agreement has been reached between the government and H&M.
A spokesperson for H&M Belgium, Marianne Nerinckx, confirmed that the new distribution centre will be in Belgium. "A number of different sites are being considered in Flanders and Wallonia. A decision will be made in the coming months," she said.
The construction will take two years, the spokesperson added. Once completed, the centre will provide employment for about 600 people, "for at least three to seven years," Nerinckx said.
H&M's activities in Puurs – which include logistics, IT and accounting – will not be affected by the new plans, even once the new centre is operational.
