BRUSSELS – The 18-year-old Hasselt boy who was released from prison in Kentucky on Tuesday will most likely be back in Belgium on Thursday. His lawyer Gerald Corthouts said this in Hasselt Wednesday morning.
"A number of formalities still have to be completed. He also has to retrieve his personal papers and items, including his passport, MP3 player and mobile phone, from the sheriff," Corthouts said.
The lawyer spoke with his contact persons in the US by phone on Tuesday and also with the boy's family in Hasselt. "The parents are very relieved. They will be even more relieved when their son is actually back in Belgium," Corthouts said.
A Grand Jury had to decide on Tuesday whether the boy would be released or face trial. On Tuesday at about 3.30 pm local time the Grand Jury decided he should be released. The 18-year-old was then brought to a hotel for the night.
