BRUSSELS – The Ecuadorian girl Angelica Cajamarca and her father Javier were taken into custody this morning at Zaventem airport, as reported by RTBF.
Angelica and Javier were accompanied by a third person, presumably from the Ecuadorian consulate. The Aliens Department has confirmed this, while adding the comment that the two will not be transferred to the detention centre Steenokkerzeel. They will be held in temporary custody at the airport. Angelica’s mother was apparently not in the vicinity.
The girl and her mother were about to be expelled from the country a few weeks ago, but that led to strong protests from a section of the population. The court decided that Angelica and her mother should be given their freedom.
