Not enough snow yet for skiing in Belgium 04/02/2008 00:00

The first snow of the winter made many Belgians hope they could spend the half-term break out on the piste, but so far there is not really enough of the white stuff to go round.
Finding snow to ski in Belgium is no mean feat.
Signal de Botrange (Liège) - Belgium's highest point with an altitude of nearly 700 metres – is a good place to search.
Sadly there are only five centimetres of snow in the Belgian Ardennes at the minute and this is not enough for skiing.
Shops where you can rent ski equipment weren't able to open last year and it's been the same story so far this year too.
The Botrange ski centre purchased over 80,000 euros worth of skiing equipment two years ago
They invested in new equipment and have not had an opportunity to pay if off.
Still there's lots of fun to be had in Botrange. Many kids are enjoying the half-term break.
The weatherman forecast twenty centimetres of snow, but many grandparents are still happy with five because the kids can still play.
There were some langlaufers, but they had to bring their own equipment.
