The cycling season is once again upon us and today riders faced the arduous "Dwars door Vlaanderen" or "Straight through Flanders" race.
Last year Fleming Tom Boonen had been victorious here, but on Wednesday Frenchman Sylvain Chavanel of the Cofidis team was first across the finishing line.
The 28-year-old came home 26 seconds ahead of Dutchman Steven De Jongh and Fleming Niko Eeckhout.
The race covered a distance of 200 kms from the West Flemish towns of Roeselare to Waregem.
This was the 63rd time that the race was held. The race took the riders along a route through the hills of the Flemish Ardennes in East Flanders province.
13 ProTour teams took part in this year's race.
