Belgian prosecutors and the police are examining information about terrorist suspects who were detained in Morocco.
Belgian prosecutors and the police are examining information about terrorist suspects that were detained in Morocco on Tuesday. One of the suspects is a Belgian of Moroccan extraction. He is suspected of killing six people in Belgium.
Federal public prosecutors, the Brussels public prosecutor's office and the federal police are all working on the case.
This week several dozen terrorist suspects were detained in Morocco.
The leader of the group is believed to have carried out several murders in Belgium.
Belgian federal prosecutors have started an investigation.
The murders are believed to have been committed between 1986 and 1989 and remained unsolved.
Several Francophone dailies suggest one of the victims could be the assassinated rector of the Grand Mosque in Brussels and the president of the co-ordination committee of Jewish organisations in Belgium.
The group is also thought to have carried out a series of robberies including one on the headquarters of Brinks in Luxembourg.
The Moroccan police say that the suspects intended to use the profits from these robberies for terrorist activities.
It is alleged that they planned attacks on members of the cabinet, high-ranking officers and Jewish Moroccans.
It remains unclear whether any attacks were actually committed.
The Belgian Justice Ministry has confirmed the news and hopes it will be able to co-operate smoothly.
A spokesman said Belgium was pleased that "dangerous terrorists" had been detained.
