Some 1,500 people demonstrated before the Chinese embassy in Brussels on Saturday, demanding for more progress in human rights.

BRUSSELS - Some 1,500 people demonstrated before the Chinese embassy in Brussels on Saturday.

The demonstration was organised by human rights watchdog Amnesty International.

Amnesty is demanding that China, in the lead up to the Olympic Games, works on its human rights record.

Many demonstrators carried Tibetan flags. "The Chinese attitude to Tibet is shocking," says Philippe Hensmans of Amnesty International.

The demonstration by Amnesty for more human rights in China does not only concern the Tibetan question.

When China was granted the opportunity to host the Olympic Games back in 2001, Amnesty International called for a general improvement of human rights in China. This included an end censorship and doing away with the death penalty.

"With fewer than 100 days to go before the start of the Olympic Games, there has been very little progress, if any," says Philippe Hensmans.
